Australia Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) Ballot Opens for Indian Applicants – 2026-27 Program Year

Published: 3 June 2026

Australia has officially announced the opening of registrations for the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462) Ballot for the 2026–27 program year. Eligible applicants from India will be able to register from 4 June 2026 to 25 June 2026 through the Australian Government’s ballot system.

The Work and Holiday Visa allows young adults to travel, work and experience life in Australia for up to 12 months. Due to high demand, Indian applicants must first register in a ballot system and be randomly selected before they can lodge a visa application.

Important Registration Dates

  • Registrations Open: 4 June 2026
  • Registrations Close: 25 June 2026
  • Registration Period: 3 Weeks
  • Ballot Registration Fee: AUD 25

These dates apply to applicants from India, China and Vietnam for the 2026-27 program year.

Who Can Register?

To participate in the ballot, applicants generally must:

  • Be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of registration
  • Hold a valid passport
  • Hold a valid national identity card
  • Have a valid email address
  • Meet the registration requirements set by the Australian Government
  • Pay the AUD 25 ballot registration fee

Applicants can be either inside or outside Australia when registering; however, if selected, the first Work and Holiday Visa application must be lodged from outside Australia.

How Does the Ballot Work?

The ballot is a pre-application process used by the Australian Government to manage demand for the Work and Holiday Visa.

  1. Register during the registration period.
  2. Pay the registration fee.
  3. Wait for a random selection.
  4. If selected, receive an invitation to apply.
  5. Lodge the full visa application within the specified timeframe.

Being selected in the ballot does not automatically guarantee visa approval. Applicants must still satisfy all visa requirements.
