๐Ÿ“ฐ More Countries Added to NZ Qualification Exemption List โ€“ Effective 23 June 2025

Great news for students and professionals aiming to live or work in New Zealand!

As of 23 June 2025, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has officially expanded its List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA). This means certain qualifications from newly added countries are now automatically recognised, saving time and effort in the visa application process.

ย

๐ŸŽฏ What Does This Mean for You?

If your qualification and education provider are listed under the updated LQEA, you do not need to complete an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) when applying for:

  • Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa

  • Certain Work Visas (that require recognized qualifications)

๐ŸŒ Newly Added Countries to the LQEA (June 2025):

  • ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท France

  • ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ช Germany

  • ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ India

Which visas are impacted by this exemption update?

This update primarily affects applicants for the Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa and some Work Visas that require recognized qualifications. It helps fast-track the visa process.

Do all qualifications from the newly added countries qualify automatically?

Not necessarily. Only specific qualifications from approved institutions in these countries are included in the LQEA. You must check if both your qualification and institution appear on the list.

What if my qualification is not on the updated LQEA list?

If your qualification or institution is not listed, you will still need to apply for an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) through the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).

Do Indian applicants still need an IQA for NZ Skilled Migrant Visas?

As of 23 June 2025, most Indian applicants no longer need to submit an International Qualification Assessment (IQA) when applying for a Skilled Migrant Category Resident Visa, provided their qualification and university are listed on New Zealandโ€™s List of Qualifications Exempt from Assessment (LQEA).

โœ… Recognised Indian Qualifications Include:
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degrees (e.g., B.Sc, B.Com, B.A., B.Tech, B.E.)
  • Masterโ€™s Degrees (e.g., M.Sc, MBA, M.Tech, M.Com)
  • Doctoral Degrees (PhD)
๐ŸŽ“ Examples of Approved Indian Universities:
  • University of Delhi
  • University of Mumbai
  • Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)
  • Anna University
  • Banaras Hindu University (BHU)
  • University of Calcutta
(and other UGC/NAAC-recognised institutions listed by INZ)

๐Ÿ“Œ To be exempt, both your degree and institution must be listed in the official LQEA.

How do I check if my qualification is exempt?

You can check the latest LQEA list directly on Immigration New Zealandโ€™s website or speak to an authorised consultant to verify your qualification and eligibility.

Why is this update important for Indian applicants?

For Indian applicants, this means that qualifications from approved Indian universities are now automatically recognised, eliminating the time-consuming IQA process. It makes applying under the Skilled Migrant Category faster and easier.
